Hey, I know that there are mixed reviews about this new Paul McCartney song. I was wondering if anyone could post the chords to this fun little song. Thank you very much.

Remember McCartney is tuned down a whole step, so if you want to play along with the record, you either have to re-tune or transpose those chords to the key of F.
Is he definitely tuned down?
I've been doing it in F.

I find myself helplessly playing this song every time I pick up the mando.

Could someone please post this in tab format or standard notation on thier site or in the tab archive.
I'd actually like to host this if someone could put it in a format for reading. Here, get busy!

Dagger: Watch his fingerings in any of the videos where he does the tune. He is definitely tuned down. Also, if you tune down, you can really hear the chord inversions he uses.Originally Posted by

I'm not gonna do the tab...too lazy and I am not sure why it's necessary. All the info needed is here. But attached is a zip file with three "Dance Tonight" chord/lyric song sheets I put together for a jam I am going to Monday night. One sheet is in F, if you want to play along with the "record" in standard tuning. One is in G, if you want to tune down and play it like Paul, and one is for guitarists who want to play in F by capoing 3 and playing in D. BTW, I find that in my limited singing range, playing it in D without the capo is a lot more comfortable than trying to match Paul in F.
Thank you Mando Johnny. That tune has been rolling around in my head since the i-pod commercial hit. Every time it plays, my youngest daughter starts yelling for me to come watch. She's gonna be the mandohead of my children.

No matter what the format, it is still a record.Originally Posted by

Aw, come on, Mike. Everybody knows that records are made out of vinyl. Actually, I get into this all the time when I talk about albums. Most people I talk to think if it's an album it's 12" of vinyl.

ok, even tho' it's Sir Paul... does anyone else find this song to be kind of insipid?
or is it just me? I mean... I like the sound of the mandolin, but this is definitely NOT the zenith of his songwriting achievements....

Karen, not only did I find it insipid, I used the very same word in one of the other threads about this song. GMTA, they say.

Well even if you don't like it, I don't think "insipid" is the right term. That implies "dull" and I don't think the tune is dull at all. If we are looking for a high-falootin' word for it, "jejune" might be appropriate.Originally Posted by
I respectfully disagree, though. Yes, the tune and the lyrics are simple, but simple is not always bad. Paul said in an interview that he intended it to be a simple tune, having what he described as a hoe-down kind of feel. You could make the same critcism of a lot of old-time and bluegrass, not to mention rock, blues and pop. The Beatles did a lot of simple tunes that are now classics. I do agree it is probably not his best work, but with McCartney, the least of his works are better than the best of most of the singer/songwriters of our day.
My wife and I are both huge Beatles fans, but we have not gotten into much of McCartney's work since the group broke up. However, we are both crazy about this latest CD and "Dance Tonight" is our favorite track. We were talking last night that we both can't get it out of our heads. Insipid, jejune, simplistic or whatever, McCartney seems to have a knack for creating simple melodies that stick with people.
I don't know. I think a lot of these synonyms fit this song:

No, his worst songs are simply awful and almost anybody else's songs are better. Silly Love Songs, Someone's Knocking at the Door and the worst Christmas song ever composed come readily to mind. There are many others.Originally Posted by (jflynnstl @ June 22 2007, 12:32)

4 threads and counting. The guy's got staying power for sure.
Steve
I will agree that he has a knack for writing songs that are catchy and stick with you. Simple or not, and there are MANY McCartney and Beatles songs I like a lot...grew up in the 70's and 80's with lots of this as the background music of life. I'm not dismissing the person, nor his talent in general. I just have the impression that this song is getting all sorts of play because it's Paul, not because it's good. And my guess is, if he happened to play guitar or uke instead of mando, we'd likely not be discussing this here at all.

Well, I like "Silly Love Songs," so I guess I'm insipid. BTW, I did search for lists of "Worst Songs of All Time." The only two Beatles or McCartney tunes I could find on any "worst" list were "Obla-di-obla-da," and "Someone's Knocking..." On the other hand, the Beatles are the RIAA best selling group of all time and the Rolling Stone #1 best music artists of all time. Paul has 13 Grammys across all his musical incarnations and his "Yesterday" is the most recorded tune of all time. I think he has done all right.Originally Posted by
