Very very nice Darby! Is that also a fir top?
last.
Rose mandos and the tone they produce
It is a fir top quilted back sides and neck, regular and reverse bound w/ satin finish. should be a killer mando. I can not wait to get it strung up.

Must not be too scared of Gibson's warnings concerning the flowerpots (not that I am even wanting a thread discussing it). I would be cautious my friend. Great looking mando though.
If F-model mandolins have F-holes then why don't A-model mandolins have A-holes???
Kbone requested it I dont think my 8 mandos a year will hurt Gibsons business.

If F-model mandolins have F-holes then why don't A-model mandolins have A-holes???
Actually, just one! If I requested the mandolin to be filled with marijuana when you sent it to me would you do it? Now I am done!
If F-model mandolins have F-holes then why don't A-model mandolins have A-holes???
maybe, depends on how much you wanted in it. I would have to make the rim alot wider though. and you would have to pay the shipping. Really, it is just a mando nothing more or less my point is that dont we have more important things to worry about in todays world than a flower pot?
Rose mandos and the tone they produce
At least a pound! I'll pay shipping!
If F-model mandolins have F-holes then why don't A-model mandolins have A-holes???
how about a mandola then.

Maybe an octave mandolin would be better suited to the project!
If F-model mandolins have F-holes then why don't A-model mandolins have A-holes???
I saw a mandobass once that might work for you Jeremy...
I really don't do that stuff anymore I promise. It was an example only, although in my past I could have easily filled up more than a hundred mandobasses (only in how much I had used not sold!).

Great post fellas,,,Lots of stupid banter about dope AND the flippant disregard for a copyright design. Maybe next time you could just e-mail each other directly amd save us all some embarassment?
I will give up my Collings "A" when they pry it from my cold dead hands!
embarassment? I am very proud of the accomplishments that I have done in the way of building mandolins. it is one of the few things that I can say I have worked extremely hard to perfect and still am working hard at it. as far as the joking around about the dope that is what it is a JOKE! I think everyone gets it but maybe not. why is is that people have to put down the accomplishments of others. I love Gibson mandolins and would never put down there work so why am I getting punished. Pretty much every mandolin on the market is a copy of the loar i.e. graduations, shape, tone bars.... which is a Gibson as for the flower pot I think it is the most elegant inlay out there still, If it offends or is illeagal I have plenty of the rose bud inlays I can use. I am just trying to do my best which is all I can do.

i thought the thread is funny as crap and i don't even smoke dope. nice looking mandolin too. what is the fir top like as far as sound. how does it respond and age.
This is #16. Fir top. I'll also start by saying I have no financial interest, but Darby is a friend and neighbor (and we payed full price for 16). 16 is as loud as our F-9 (which we love). It sustains as well and has a deeper voice. My wife likens the difference in voice to the difference between a mahogony and rosewood Martin Dread'. When I pick up the F-9, I think, "Boy, this thing sounds gooood..." When I pick up the Rose, I think, "Boy, this thing sounds gooood toooo..."
I asked Darby some questions about the longevity/stability of a fir top. Buddy Davis, who's been making fir topped mandolins for a long time, and taught Darby to build, hasn't had a problem (Darby feel free to chime in). I also know how passionate Darby is about building and that he stands behind his product. We're very satisfied with 16.
Last caveat... My wife and I are not professional mandolin players, nor do we play them on TV. If a professional would like to stop by and offer their opinion... well, that would be entertaining, wouldn't it?
Take care,
Shaun
Dear jcs271, I am so sorry for the embarassment I caused you. Come on dude, as Darby said, IT IS A JOKE! I am starting to believe that if you just posted a single picture of a mandolin by itself someone would get offended. Remember, JOKE; HAHA!
