It was hard to decide where to post this...Mighty Squirrel plays such an amazingly varied array of music, I could have rightly put them in at least three categories.

Saw them here, in Great Falls, MT, last Friday, for their third gig as a band. Absolutely knocked me DEAD! Gregory Spatz plays fiddle for The Jaybirds with John Reischman. With Mighty Squirrel he also plays octave mandolin. These folks play old-time, swing, celtic, Klezmer....almost anything, as far as I could tell. DO NOT MISS THEM, if you get a chance!
    Fantastic group!!!

Charles Sawtelle put together a band with the same name in Denver more than a few years ago. It had Sally Van Meter and Caleb Roberts in it.

A more appropriate name for a BG band than old-time, given its source - A Bill Monroe song.

Well, you could take up the issue of their choice of band name with them, if you like. All I'm saying is they are a simply WONDERFUL band! Extraordinarily talented musicians, very warm stage presence, and an incredible repertoire. (They tell the whole story of where the name came from, btw.)

Anything with the word "squirrel" in it is ok by me. Saw a T shirt the other day that said "Squirrels Gone Wild" with some crazy squirrels in bikinis. Could be the album cover for a Mighty Squirrel release.

You guys kill me! After I started this thread, I wrote to Greg Spatz (the OM, fiddle player) since I met him personally the day after the concert. I told him I'd posted a short review here. He asked me to send along any replies I got. But, I don't think I'll send him these!!!

I hope SOMEbody gives this band a listen. They are SOOOOO good!!

None that I know of, but I've noticed your username & wondered about it before.
