Unsolicited testimonial: Zoukfest is great! I'm going back this year.

There's still a winning raffle ticket left, too. (I'm pretty sure I bought the other winner already.)

I'm really hoping to make it. I'm a CSF former student so have friends in the area and know the campus well. Also, I've said before maybe I could get a group deal on some opera tickets if folks would like to check out the Santa Fe opera while there...a really beautiful venue.

I get the award for traveled farthest if I make it coming all the way from Thailand

I guess I'm gonna have to buy a ticket, because that reso OM and I have some serious chemistry.

Mr. Landes, in the event that I win this, I might have to get some advice from you as to a local luthier who could set her up as a lefty...that's not the sort of instrument I would trust to the guys at the local Fender dealership...

We shot video clips of both raffle instruments today. You'll have to hear Chipper Thompson playing slide on GD's resophonic zouk to believe it.

    Good man indeed.

Well, I bought my ticket. Win or lose, I should get my money's worth just daydreaming about it.

Looking forward to those clips, too.

Man, I already have Brian Dean building me a cittern - winning either of those two 'zouks would be pure icing on my already spectacular cake! I lived in Santa Fe for 13 years; beautiful little city -- stop at Second Street Brewery and have a pint

Edit: Wow! Robby Rothschild is on staff? Tell him Rob "Bob" Zamites said hello -- I sang 'Twa Corbies' with him, his wife and his brother, Char at 2nd Street when they were performing as "Selkies", small world, ain't it?

Oh man...don't mention second street...went back there when this summer for the first time in 3 years...man it's good...and they were having a nice bluegrass jam the first day I went. Nothing that even comes close in Thailand.

M.O.M. has been over in hualapai arizona getting that special windsor-newton rind job from internationally acclaimed folk artist bonita barlow, should be back to oldwave holler next week for the final clearcoats and maybe a few small plastic houseflies(the official new mexistan state bird!) Then on to santa fe for the proper exploitation, as elwood would say.......

Y'know, I have a nice chunk of change saved up for my next instrument purchase, and I change my mind about what I should buy every 24 hours or so.

But I can't buy ANYTHING until I find out if I bought the magic ticket for the Zoukfest raffle.

So it was a good investment, that ticket . . . I have a 2% change of winning a first-rate CBOM, and in the meantime, it keeps me from spending all my money . . .

I have been to every Zoukfest and they just get better and better. This is a great opportunity to learn about the music and the instruments.

I have made a donation to Zoukfest for the amount of $430 to be used for a tuition scholarship for a high school or college student who might not otherwise have the oportunity to attend. I would like to challenge other players to do the same. It is tax deductable for those of you who pay taxes and can get deductions, and it supports the music and the world of the bouzouki and other instruments. Even smaller donations from several folks could support a similar scholarship or provide enough to cover lodging and food for a student. Or, perhaps you might want to support a music teacher as a way to spread the benefit to many others.

And, if anyone knows of possible foundations or other sources of funding to support attendance by students or music teachers at festivals like Zoukfest, please post that information.

    Thanks everyone,

It will be in the next raffle, starting up during the camp, more than likely - depends on when the first raffle for the Herb Taylor bouzouki and the GD Armstrong resophonic bouzouki closes at 100 tickets sold. Nearly 60 have been sold so far...

I got to play it in mid-February before it was sent to be painted. It ROCKS!!!
