I'm relocating to Perth-Lanark-Westport area of eastern Ontario in April and looking for potential opportunities to play Celtic music with like-minded players. #I play mandolin, dola, OM, and rhythm guitar and would love to jam on a regular basis. #So, looking for contacts.

Here's a link to a long-time annual fiddle contest nearby.

You might want to give The Ottawa Folklore Center in Ottawa a call at
613-730-2887. I know there is an Irish pub downtown that has a jam every week I think...can't remember the name..but the Folklore Center would. They also stock a lot of good instruments, have classes and other references in the Ottawa/Quebec area. good luck

We have a jam every second sunday - we just had one yesterday, from 1-5 pm, at the The Ottawa Folklore Center.

Carp Ontario (about 1 hour north of Perth, west of Ottawa) has a weekly Monday Celtic jam listed on their website ... they also have a 100+ page Tunebook available in pdf format ... if Carp is too far away to travel, they may at least know of some other Celtic Jams in the area ...

    Keepin' tuned ...

How about Edmonton in Alberta? I may be spending a month there for work.

If you are going to Edmonton check out Alfie Myer Music on 118th ave. They have the best selection of mandolins in the city.
O'Byrne's on Whyte ave used to have a session.

When looking to attract other pickers in a new location you might also try putting yourself on the map at www.folkjam.org where we've recently added groups. You create a group in a city, and we'll put that group on the maps where any local visitors will see it. Call it something like "Looking for Celtic players" in this case.

Our listings in Canada are pretty sparse so I'm certain we won't be much help to you two looking for jams in Edmonton and eastern Ontario, at least when it comes to finding existing listings. We've laid a foundation to help all of us traveling pickers find jams when on the road and what we need now, especially in Canada, are kind folks to post their local jams.

I see that TheSession.org just announced a new website for Irish Music Ottawa, with links to local seisiuns, festivals & other resources.

Hi people at folkjam, you sent me some cards to hand out...and I have. Was in New Brunswick a couple of weeks back and thought this might be of interest for those traveling on the east coast.

Jams in New Brunswick near St. John - St. Andrews area

Blacks Harbour every Sunday from two until four at Stella Maris Hall. You can get more information from Roger at 1-506-456-2600. Found out about it at the music store on Main st. St. George. cost is $2.00.

Thanks so much, we do so appreciate your help. I presume this is S.S who I sent cards out to in Canada late last year. I think at that time we only had two or three jams listed in CA. That's gone up to twenty-something, which is better but still nothing like the 300+ recurring jams posted to the US. Thanks for your part in making jams in Canada a little easier to find.
