Does anyone out there know of a source for SS fretwire in a size comparable to Stew-Mac's #764 ? I've got a couple customers who really go through it fast, but they want the more traditional small wire.

Nope. I think it's only offered in guitar sizes, and that's all been discussed recently in another thread. You should talk to Rick Turner about the relative merits of SS frets. It's apparently not as bombproof as some have thought.
Thanks for that info. I was afraid that was the case, and I'm hoping that someone will offer it in the future. I'm not really expecting it to be invincible, just hoping to get some extra mileage for these few customers who wear frets so fast.
Ward, you can file the sides of the crown to make a narrower crown. It is a lot of elbow grease but it does work. I have filed .080" fret wire down to .060". It is worth extra money for the effort. Personally I think it better to just leave the frets full size and hope the extra material would wear longer.
I use stainless mandolin wire in the .040 wide by .040 high range - it's great, and the same size as those high frets you see in the late 1920s Gibsons.
Ward, Jescar Enterprises sells the stuff Frank is using and I also use it, great stuff. Ph.845-352-5850
Thanks guys! I got some of the reproduction Gibson wire from Jescar awhile back, but I didn't think they had small wire in SS. I'll call them.
What about the Gold EVO wire in that size?
