I work in Rural Hall, so yes we are close by. I play with a bunch called Blues Creek, we are a bluegrass band. But love to jam with others, I think I may have attended the jam you are speaking of once. I see too, that they are starting a jam at some library off Reynolda Road in Winston, I read it in the Relish Magazine.

    Mt. Airy? Try, this:

    1. park anywhere downtown(well, so to speak, but you know what I mean)
    2. walk down the sidewalk
    3. to each person that you pass by say "hey, you guys pickin' tonight?"

I tried That in Winston and had about $5 in change bummed off me and gave out a pack of smokes. #

I know this is off topic but someone told me about this band "COUNTY LINE DAREDEVILS" They are going to be playing at the Lone Wolf Tavern in Winston on the 17th. Anyone of you heard thim before? Is was told that they are a Bluegrass bad but thats all I know.

Those instructions were for Mt. Airy use only. Use them in Winston-Salem at your own risk.

    Yep, exactly.

Here in the Greensboro area, everybody has a cousin or a friend who plays bluegrass. In Mt Airy, well, that's where those cousins and friends all live.

I think if you try that in Northern Stokes County you might lose a tooth. #

You talking about Mickey Galyean? Had a terrific jam with him last year at the Mt Airy fiddlers, final night... that boy can do some singin, and a bunch of us (well, Greg Jones and the rest of his band with Joe Hannabach on bass) did about 2 dozen Del McCoury songs in a row with all the harmonies, and Tim Martin was nailing all the Jason Carter licks on the fiddle. I'd love to repeat that jam this year... you're lucky to live so close to Mickey, he seems like a great guy.

Next big town down from Mayberry on Hwy 601 is Yadkinville where I think on Tues nights(or is it Weds)they have a big jam session inside a community building in downtown. Anybody know the details?

    We mustn't forget Dobson.

For those who tried that link the image on the right hand side is the famous "Mt. Pilot", or Pilot Mountain, from the Andy Griffith Show.

Dobson next big town? Well they do have a nice steak house.
I think Dobson is one of those towns that has the city limits signs on one pole.

"i am going on the hill this year..."

Dave, I'm definitely OVER the hill this year, and I'll have the wife and kids with me most all the week... so we'll go for the full hookups. Nothing like electric, water, and sewer connections... I feel kind of guilty, like a old-time/bluegrass festival shouldn't co-exist with amenities like A/C during the heat of the day, hot showers in the morning, and good meals cooked in your own fully equipped kitchen... but I'll get over the guilt somehow. Come on down, and you can pick "Billy in the Lowground" for me.

I'm from Stokes County and I am missing a tooth. Not one of my front ones thank god. It got knocked out in Charlotte so I guess that doesn't count. #

Can we wrangle a cafe get-together this year? I'll be 1/2-way up the hill for a few days.

Maybe we should put together a mando-band for one of the contests! Oh would that rile the judges!

ps--i got a tooth pulled a few years back (against advice from my family).
