Has anyone out there seen volumes 3-4 of the Bickford method? I am just curious what these volumes cover as I am currently trying to order them via interlibrary loan.

I also have all four, although the latter two aren't very pretty copies. Djangobooks.com and publisher Carl Fischer were discussing posting all four volumes to the Dlangobooks e-books page years ago. That appears to have not come to fruition yet.

I might be inclined to reprint it myself, if there is enough interest out there. I have other projects that would have to come first, but it ought to be available for its historical interest.

I was able to get a much better copy of Volume 4 a couple of years ago. I have been selling quality comb-bound photocopies of these for some time. If anyone is interested I have at least 2 each of volumes 2,3, & 4.

Good, then it's already covered! Do you have this advertised somewhere?

I usually advertise these and others books (Siegel, Stauffer and Moyers) on occasional ads on the Cafe.

Thanks Jim. I replied to your message. I am also interested in copies of these.

I have volume 1 through interlibrary loan and I really like the way it is set up. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a market for a reprint of this, depending on how inexpensively it could be printed. Maybe a guy could get high-res scans and find a printer to do a digital short run of a few hundred copies to test the market.

I think Bickford is one of the best of the American methods. However, I have sold maybe a dozen copies of each over the last few years.

Evidently some people had contacted Carl Fischer, who originally published it, and they were not at all interested in reprinting anything but the first volume, which is still in print and sold by them.

I would be hesitant to drop a load of money even on a short digital run and have a whole pile of these things hanging around.

Good points. It is possible that there are publishing subventions available to offset the projected losses from a project like this. If Bickford's method is considered an important piece of our country's musical heritage it may be worth a little research. Of course, grants come with strings attached that can drive up costs, for example requiring smythe-sewn bindings, acid-free paper or any of the other ANSI-NISO standards. It's fun to think about until reality checks in.
