I'm going to Orlando next week for a conference.
Anyone know of any good music stores/bluegrass happenings/etc in the Orlando area?

check out you tube and search for Billy Hill and the Hill billies. I believe they play all around the park and do some shows at the "revue"
Thank you very much. God bless.

There is a pretty healthy bluegrass community in Orlando. There is a guy there named Jim (James) Fee who is a true Godfather of Bluegrass, and has a jam in his shop behind his house fairly regularly. He has many deciples and has been a teacher and performer and recording artist. His Son-In-Law, Wynn Osborne, son of Bobby Osborne also lives in Orlando. Wynn is a phenominal banjo player and can play whatever you put in his hands. I realize I am not helping much other than giving you a small piece of a puzzle and a glimmer of hope, but I am pretty sure you could ferret out something, depending on how much time you have. I am sure there is a lot more happening there that I am unaware of. Good luck. PS- I believe Billy Hill (Evan Marshall) and the Hill Billys are in Californ-e-i-a.

A wrong note played timidly is a wrong note. A wrong note played with authority is an interpretation.

Check wwww.folkfiddle.com for links to Central Florida jams; there are quite a few, and most are quite open to visitors. #Less to report on the music store side, unfortunately. #If there is still a decent mandolin on the wall of any shop in Orlando, I have not seen it.

    Have fun in Orlando!

There's a great Friday night session in Ocoee, an Orlando suburb near Winter Garden. It's in a parking lot near the twistee freeze and folks come with their lawn chairs and coolers to listen.

It's been going for 16 years and many of the musicians are from NC, VA and TN.

I'm going to Orlando next week, too, for the SHOT show.

Which conference are you going to?

Hey, I'll be there (SHOT Show) myself, but wont have my instrument. Havent ever had the free time to lookup anything while down there.

Over in Titusville, Cocoa Beach there is Gold Tone Banjo. I've never had the chance to swing by the times I've been down on business, but one day. Assuming it is still there.

    Thanks for the tips everyone.
Sorry to seem rude if I haven't replied to questions but we had the River City Bluegrass Festival this weekend here in Portland, Or and I haven't even thought about a computer until now (John Reichman, Longview, Nashville Bluegrass Band, Larry Sparks, Rhonda Vincent, Emmy Lou Harris, Grisman playing Bluegrass....).

BG mando, I'll be in town for the Veterinary conference.
    What's the SHOT show?

SHOT show is a firearms and hunting industry trade show.

My company printed some of the graphics for the show.

If you like seafood, check out the Lobster Fest, just up the road from the convention center, across the street from the Best Western. All you can eat Maine lobster and New England seafood for around $30.
