I heard this song but didn't hear who it was by. I'd like to find a recording of it so I could play along with it-once I figure out the chords of course!I'm sure someone knows the song and an artist that recorded it.

It's a Bill Monroe tune. You can find it on Bluegrass Album Vol. 1 CD
by the Bluegrass Album Band.
I'm not sure what collection it would be on by Monroe as it was originally released on a 45.
Old Hometown, Cabin Fever String Band
Written by Lester Flatt & Curly Seckler. Flatt & Scruggs recorded it on 11-21-50 with Lester, Earl, Curly on mando, Benny Sims on fiddle, and Jody Rainwater on bass. It was on the first "The Bluegrass Album" by Tony Rice, Doyle Lawson , etc. Grisman sang the lead to Del McCoury's tenor and twin mandolins by Grisman and Ronnie McCoury on "Life of Sorrow".
Go to www.allmusic.com and do a search by song, you'll find about a dozen albums/collections featuring the song....or better still search for the song title at the iTunes store, you'll find several versions you can preview for free (and buy for 99 cents each).
There is a super cut of that tune on the Johnson Mtn. Boys "Live at the Birchmere" album. Enjoy!
thanks ya'll - as we say here in Virginny I've not used iTunes but they have several cuts. Keep on pickin' and a Merry Christmas to all!
The original with Seckler and Flatt is perhaps the finest example of Curly's distinctive tenor singing and simple-but-effective mandolin playing. This was F&S before Mon forced them to replace mando with dobro as the price for joining the Opry. Agree it's a great song. The BG album band version with Lawson and T Rice taking the two parts is a "reasonable" (!!) cover...
