    Hi,
Can someone tell me how the "Snake Head" name came about? Is it a name Gibson gave them or is it a nickname?

    Thanks BJ

I can't answer your question as to who did the naming, but I believe the name 'Snake Head' came about because the headstock has a shape that resembles the head of a snake. I cannot remember seeing any early sales literature from Gibson using the term 'Snake Head'. (Feels like I might be elaborating on the obvious...sorry.)

If I had to guess, I'd say it was a nickname started by the users/players. Sort of like 'Knucklehead' and 'Panhead' were nicknames for some Harley Davidson overhead-valve engines.

Hi DustyAmps, wow that A0 is realy something! Maple back? Very similar to a model I have, sadly I cannot read FON or serial in mine to chase its manufacture date etc. I cannot tell from your picture if your instrument has a flat or carved back? Also, is the neck angle flat, I have seen some A0 and A00 instruments with necks almost parallel to top plane accompanied by a shallow bridge to compensate, very curious. Cheers.

My A0 has a carved flame maple back and same construction as the standard A models. Though the A0 was the low A model offered at the time, because of the hard economic times, they really dressed this one up in order to sell it.

Was that shot taken in the famous bar in Turre where you have your folk club? Brings back finds memories.

    Hi Nic,

No - that place shut down, but is reopening soon under new management after a full renovation. We are back there from October. That pic was shot at an outdoor concert in Roquetas de Mar which is to the south of Almeria city.

Awesome photo Nick -- Two Sam's! I had to steal that image -- it just might be the next desktop photo on my computer!

There must be some Vulcan mind meld going on out there on the left coast? Everyone with a sunrise tone guard and a speed neck!!

I know I am biased but that 1930's motif with the perpendicular "Gibson" script and the block inlays are the the epitome of mando cool!

Also judging by the grain of the maple back I would say that the second one from the left is an F-5G...am I correct?
