closer. I snagged this from Gruhn the day it went up earlier this year. (sometimes even he messes up, $650)

Here's my 1981 F5L. I'm getting ready to have an overhaul done to it over the winter months.

Yellowmandolin:
Replace original pickguard becuase it is deteriorating. Refret and probably recondition the entire fretboard. It seems there is a small dip in the fretboard about the 5th fret. Probably replace the tuners. Two are pretty wiggly and I can turn them about an eighth of a turn without engaging the gear. Then just a spitshine to make it look like new. There are no dings or nicks in this mando and I hope to keep it that way. (A serious challenge.)

I wish I could make out the serial number on my A4. Maybe it's 1918 or a little earlier? The pickguard is a modern replica, but all else original.
I'll bet that brown A2 snake is a killer... I had one once and it was just too good! Traded it to The Dawg (even) for a red-lined Loar rectangular case... minus a Loar!

Hey RodF...I don't think the bridge is original either.
Have a Great Day!

Hey come on Big Joe, get out the camera and get a picture of the stable of Gibson's that you currently have. I want to see that DMM, if you still have it.

Here is my current set, though with the crazy inflation of selling prices even for these simple old A's, I doubt I will expand this group.
Above, L: Late 30's Cromwell archtop. R: 30's Recording King pancake.
Below, L: 1915 A. Stripped and refinished w/ glossy plastic stuff long ago; I think this was originally the dark brown. Very nice playing and sounding mando. R; 1916 A1, slso refinished but looks much more natural. This one needs a good going-over to play nicely, including FB plane and refret. I'll get around to it one of these days.

BTW: What is the trick to make your attached photos appear larger in the post? Mine are all sized to be 400-500 kb.
