Although I do know a guy who plays an 8-string ukulele. Of course, I can't but help thinking of it as just a badly-designed mandolin.
If I call my guitar my "axe," does that mean my mandolin is my hatchet?

Been a couple years since this thread has surfaced, some of the new guys who haven't seen it should get a kick out of it. It is a time consumer though.

If you ever had to mansplain this: “No, a ukulele is like a little guitar. A mandolin is like a violin with eight strings and frets”

I've done this. I am also guilty of 90% (at least) of the other posts. I guess I am a mandolin picker...….

If you’re falling asleep next to your partner in bed and you hear a song in your head so you start to strum on their face, you might be a mandolin picker.

If you know who Ray Jackson is, and tell everyone whenever Rod Stewart comes up, you might just be a mandolin picker.

Also, if anyone anywhere anytime someone starts playing "Friend Of The Devil," you pay close attention to everything about it.

In fact, I went to a friend's gig, and they did this near the start of their second set. I happened to have my mandolin with me - happens - and they kept looking over at me. So I pulled it out in time to take a couple of leads right from where I was sitting. They were quiet enough and my banjo-killer is loud enough that it worked. Now, if only they had gotten the verses in the right order!

You hear a song - any song, any genre, any instrumentation - and imagine how it could be improved with the addition of a mandolin. And then work out the part in your mind and fit it into what you're hearing.

Oh, and you wish the mandosmiley emoji could be used in your other web presences.

Amen to that, Brother. I am not generally an emoji user, but I would sure use that one if I knew how to 'export' it out of the Cafe.
