Here's what I have so far. #Keep the numbers and dates coming

    V-73732 October 18, 2000
    V-70281 2000 Probably Dec 22, 2000
    73732, 70281, 2, 3 and ? were probably the prototypes)
V-70286 December 22, 2000 according to an article
    V-70304 August 2, 2001
    V-70311 September 27, 2001
    V-70327 February 1, 2002
    V-70239 February 20, 2002
    V-70335 March 22, 2002
    V-70341 May 28, 2002 # One piece back
    V-70368 January 23, 2003 # 30's appointments
    V-70371 February 22, 2003
    V-70778 April 18, 2003
    D-70392 July 9, 2003
    V-70417 August 24, 2004

Looking at Darryl's list above and reviewing the information I earlier provided, I see 2 corrections. D70327 is dated Dec. 14th/05, not Dec. 4th as I incorrectly stated earlier. D 70328 is dated Dec. 16th, not 15th. Sorry for my error. Norm.

Given this range of Master Models:

    V-70368 January 23, 2003 30's appointments
    V-70371 February 22, 2003
    V-70778 April 18, 2003
    D-70392 July 9, 2003
    V-70417 August 24, 2004

The V-70778 strikes me as out of place within this series of dates. I guess I'll chalk the number up the un-named Gibson employee who no longer works for the company.

I own MM V-70387 dated August 28, 2003 signed by Charlie. In addition, I own DMM D-70327 dated December 14, 2005 signed by Danny Roberts. Both of the above instruments have 2 piece backs. Hope that this is useful information

I have # V70376 signed by Charlie D. on May 30,2003...Two piece flame back. Had an abbreviated pickguard made by Steve Smith and as a little something extra he put the patent stamp on it.

Mine is V70323 signed by Charlie and dated December 28, 2001. It's aging nicely and sounding more Loar-like every day.

Thanks everyone. We see two duplicates with respect to MM's and DMM's now.

Let's zero in on when Charlie handed signing them off to Danny Roberts

Charlie signed them until Christmas eve (or the day before) in 2004. After that they were signed by Danny. It is possible for the D7xxx to be replicated in the v7xxx as they are different models, though very similar. There should not be any duplicates in the rest. That does not mean it cannot happen, just should not have.

Whooooooa. can you double check the date on that. This throws things for a loop

Norm..the 70327 and 70328 number you mention must be Roberts signed then (according to BIGJOE's post)

If that serial number is correct, it should be 2000

I do not have the mandolin at work with me, but I looked at the date again last night. There was a letter from Gibson stating that this was the first Master Model for 2000, but I do not have in my possession.

    F5,

I'll try to get you a photo of the labels tonight. They may have updated the date once the varnish was applied, but I see what you mean on the 2000 vs 2003.

I made a numerical transposition error and the February 20, 2002 instrument number I have is V70329 not V70239.

All this Derrington Master Model talk makes very graetfull that I have one. It's almost feels as prestiges as owning a Loar signed F-5. Does any one know haw many Derrington signed MM were made between 2000 and 12-24-2004

This is a fascinating thread. I wonder if there is any interest in starting another thread on the "artist models" produced during the Derrington period. It seems like most of them (apart from the Bush and Lawson models) are now or soon to be retired. Anybody interested? (P.S.: Sorry to hijack the MM thread.)
