I am experimenting with using Garageband.

    I have a G5 DP 2Ghz with 2.5GB Ram.

I am running a AT2020 Mic Through an ART TubeMP preamp.
The preamp is plugged into my USB port through a MicPlug and/or a GuitarPlug.

I can record Live instruments into GB, but when I go to overdub or record another track, I get a ton of latency (using the headphones for a monitor).

Am I going about this all wrong? What should I do to be able to multitrack?

    Thank in advance, ad

Hmmm. Are you sure you're running it into the USB? If so, maybe that's what's causing the lag. It's definitely not your system. Also, if you are using MIDI, or are applying multiple effects to the track already recorded (as opposed to keeping it dry) that my be causing lag.

I'm using Garageband in conjunction with a iMac G5 (not dual processor) and I don't have a big problem with lag. I'm running an AT4040 into a Focusrite Mic Pre, then either from there into the iMac via the mini-stereo jack input. Or I go into a Behringer mixer first if I want to use multiple mics, then into the mini-stereo jack input. I've never tried going in with USB.

The only time I've experienced lag is when I try to have multiple midi tracks (such as an upright bass) or I have multiple audio tracks with effects applied to them.

    Hope this helps.

I'm running it into the USB, which I think is the root of my problem. I will try running it into the audio in jack and see if that works better.

Awesome. #Good to hear. #Also, just checked out your Bryce Creative site. #LOL, looks like Garageband isn't the only thing we have in common.
