    I've been experimenting with my makeshift photography equipment, so here are some pictures of my new F5 style mandolin. The soon-to-be owner decided to name it Lucky because it is number 13.

    This picture is for "Spruce". He supplied the 6 1/2 lines-per-inch Sitka spruce, and he said he loves the look of wide grain in the scroll area.

    It sure is hard to keep the reflections out of pictures of things like mandolins, with all the curves and gloss!

    Very nice sir. Why Sitka (just curious, I like Sitka to,but usually more mellow than Red) and that is the widest grained Sitka that I have seen.

    Looks like minimal finish and very transparent, two qualities that really standout.

    Spruce is very fortunant!!!

    I went back and edited my misleading post. This is not Bruce's mandolin, sorry.

    Why Sitka?
    Because I like it. Bruce gave me this piece when I was out there a couple of years ago, because I'm not opposed to using ton-traditional looking wood. I like it so well that I just bought the rest of what he had that is wide enough for one-piece tops. This stuff is stiffer than most of the Red spruce that I have.

    That is beautiful, John. I love the finish. Very traditional looking. Scroll is awesome, and I agree, that top grain is nice.

    Very nice John.
    It has a very clean elegance to it and I like that you captured all of the feel of a vintage F5 but didn't overdo it.
    I like the clean lines of the fretboard end and the classy, clean headstock inlays.
    Crisp lines and sharp, sharp scroll work.
    Really good work.
    The quality of work that we are treated to on this site is extrordinary.
    This one certainly falls into that catagory.

    I agree with all the praise above, John. That looks really classy. That wide grained top is very attractive! I also like the headstock inlay very much, esp. the quoting of an f hole in the H. Classy!

    Beautiful! Love that wide grain (and I am also partial to Sitka), and the curl in the one piece back is great, the irregularities keep it interesting. The scroll carving is very tasty. Love to be able to hear it.

    That is one good looking scroll. It's obvious you continually strive for perfection, and it looks to me like you always get there.

    That's absolutely beautiful. I'm not normally a fan of sunbursts, but I do love the colour and gradation (is that the right word?) of that one, it really complements the beauty of the wood.
