love the headstock shape-nice job
Trade ya even for an early '90s Nissan Sentra. Milage, what milage? I eagerly await your reply.
Peace, Mooh.
I liked the avant garde sound holes on the one Greg had at Wintergrass.
How does the S holes change the sound? Also does the scroll lean in a bit
more towards the neck on this one? Nice to see you steppin' out of the
typical F5 box!
nice lines on that thing, it looks so smooth!

It looks fast - like it's about to be pulled over for speeding.

Hans,
Those aren't ebony tuner buttons, are they? They seem to have a rich brown color.

Okay, I'll dissent (puts flame-proof suit on). I prefer Greg's version. I also prefer the Stealth over this model. Not sure about the scroll's elongation and flow from the body. I think a more traditional burst might pull this together visually. With the F holes and the return of a more traditionally shaped pickguard, the "open bottom" burst doesn't fit/flow for me. Maybe it's because the others were a more clear departure from F-5 aesthetics.
I find myself looking at this again! I really like the proportions of this mandolin. There is a certain grace to it that's missing from many other non-traditional designs, perhaps because it acknowledges some existing design elements without ripping them off wholesale, but more likely because there is a smooth flow of lines from one curve to another.
Very nice. If it sounds as good as it looks, look out!
Peace, Mooh.
real perty, I like!!

Stumbling Towards Competence
Hans...you've done it again! Your work always impresses me. I love the originality in your headstock and body lines. They have a cool reference to the history of the F model, but you've taken it in a new direction. Thank you for exhibiting your creativity. One never knows about the commercial results of great art, but it certainly is great art!
Have a Great Day!

Is the volume larger than a traditional "F"? The Salvador Dali model?
Thanks folks. You too Phil! I do appreciate all input.
Mooh, I'll take a Prius!
Arthur, I decided that with all the curves on this one the reverse dolphin holes were too angular as was the original peghead. Doesn't seem to sound much different than Greg's that I could attribute to the shape. I didn't angle the scroll, but I think "dreadnaughting" the waist out might give that impression. Intend to move the most forward point of the scroll towards the neck though...would probably give it more slant. I also have some refining to do on the button. The sunrise sunburst is not a fixed part of the design. As far as the sound, I'd say it sounds like my 23V Italians (Italian top). I'll let the instrument speak for itself. I believe Flowerpot may have a soundclip.
Clayton, I made the buttons from African blackwood.
Tom, the volume is just a tad larger. Salvador Dali, maybe, but not Escher...Wouldn't want it eating it's own tailpiece!
I'll have some pix up in a few days of the "special Eclipse" that I made for my wife. # #
The whole thing is nice, but from my perspective, the single nicest thing about it is what I've also been planning on doing myself for a while.
Not everyone spends all their time standing up playing. In fact, some of us never do, and with this design or one similar to it, it becomes immideately clear that ones right thigh will suffer a lot less painful indignations from this lower point design than the standard "F" style fare.

My wife says I don't pay enough attention to what she says....
(Or something like that...)
Thank you Joe! Indeed as our very own Dave Ray (passed away and sorely missed) would have said, "You are too kind."
Looks like a standard F-5 that was redisgned in a wind tunnel. Streamlined to go really FAST!!
Hans, I've enjoyed seeing so many of your fine, imaginative creations here on MC. As I steel myself for yet another attempt within the confines of the comfort and security of straight-up F5-ness, I am so very admiring of your resourcefulness and creative inspiration. Bravo, and my sincere congratulations to you!
Hans,
Simply STUNNING!!
