How cool!
apparently there really is a market for electric mandolins, which is a good thing!
If anyone has the opportunity t try one, please give your feedback!
I've always been crazy, but it kept me from going insane! (W.J.)
Syncopation rules the nation! (S.J.)
I don't know about the rest of you, but I would trust a low-end Kentucky instrument over a low-end Epiphone. A friend of mine, on his return from NAMM told me that we emando types are going to see a rapid increase in our ranks, the industry's got a lot of them headed to market, apparently.

The guy from Saga tells me the first batch of these are sold out. Let me know if you see one at a dealership.
The tailpiece takes either ball-end or loop-end strings ... how cool is that?

I've gotta say I really like that design...Really nice flow and nod to the F...I wonder about the basswood body, though...Maybe I just don't get out much, but I don't think I've ever heard of basswood being used as a body wood...Is this more common than I'm aware of?
The ball end/loop end tailpiece is super cool...Wonder who makes the lipstick pickup?
So, who bought the one that was on ebay? It went for $400.00 with the buy it now option.
Way back when, the KM-300E was a 5-string. I owned one. Their 4-string was a much nicer upgraded KM-400E.

Pretty common on guitars, and supposedly associated with good sustain, but not much tone coloration.Originally Posted by (mandoaz @ April 16 2004, 00:33)
The one on eBay was an older KM400E -- not the new guy.Originally Posted by (thistle3585 @ April 16 2004, 11:36)
Retail on the new one is $295, BTW. Can you say "Compete with Mandobird"?

Hmmmm.... Interesting. Wonder how that lipstick pickup sounds..
Finish is kinda boring though. It would've looked better in sea foam green... or silver sparkle... or leopard skin... Or heck, RED.
I just ordered one from Saga (I am a dealer). They are shipping out a fresh batch on Monday and I will give my impression then. (for what it's worth.....) John
I bet if sales are good, they might consider custom colors. Remember, the first Mandobirds only came in sunburst too.
It looks like I'll soon have an opportunity to review one. I'll keep us all posted.

Hey everyone, my name's Nick, I'm new here. I won one of these beauties on eBay a few days ago. Little under $300 including tweed hardshell case and shipping. It's supposed to get here on Monday, so I'll post a quick review then. I hope it plays as good as it looks!
Welcome CatJag! This is the best mandoplace in the mandoverse.

Well I got the mandolin today, and my initial impressions are great. I don't have long, but I'll say a few things now. Pictures will come later.
It's really beautiful. Only things is that the fret board seems a little discolored or scuffed up... not a biggie. Everything else is beautiful. Feels very well made.
Pick-up sounds really good, and it plays VERY well. Actions is nice and low. I haven't played too many solid bodies, so I'll be curious to hear what other people think, but I really love how it plays.
Also, I don't think this is standard, but mine came with an absolutely fantastic hard shell tweed case.
Well, gotta go! I'll be back later.
Here's another new KM-300 on eBay.
Still waiting for my review copy, but should come soon...

OK, had this one for a couple of days now. Neck width is good, easier(wider than the Mandobird) , set up was good, fit and finish better than expected. Little heavier than expected. Had a loose nut on the volume pot-easy fix. Lipstick tube sounded better and stronger than expected, ran it through a Crate Vintage 50 tube amp clean and dirty, pretty strong. All in all, a very decent, low priced electric 4 string. Better than some that I have paid alot more for. I don't think that anyone would be disappointed.:blues:
That thing looks perfect for some western swing... I've got a mandobird and was pleasantly surprised at how solid it was and it sounds like this Kentucky is too. Plus, it has a radiused fretboard (which is my preference, but I don't think it makes much a difference). Hows the sound compare with the Mandobird?
