Have my heart set on a Mid-Missouri mandola, but I'm planning to get one when a specific event occurs, and since Mid-Missouri isn't producing mandolas at the minute, and I'm not at all sure I can find one used in the "window of opportunity" when it occurs, I'm thinking about looking at other brands. Any suggestions for mandolas in the same general price/quality range as Mid-Mo? Flat top would be my first choice, but I'd consider any shape but an F.

There's a Weber mandola for sale now, in these classifieds. I suggest talking to the person. I don't know where you live, but maybe there'd be a Weber in a music shop nearby. J

Yule-- how far out is your window? You might be able to get Mid-Mo to make you one...or some other luthier.

    another thought...

...meanwhile, you might post on the Classifieds "wanted" page, in case someone has one sitting around that they'd consider selling...

I have heard of people being very very happy with their Mid-Mo Mandolas. Of course I played a Weber Octave Yellowstone a few times and it was amazing, jump on teh Weber if you can, but if not the Mid-Mo is probably not a bad choice either.

Trinity College makes a pretty decent outfit, too. I've had mine a little over a year, and have enjoyed every minute of it.

If you wanted to try your hand with an F style 'Dola, I was lucky enough to play a Weber Bitteroot that was downright dreamy. The strings were 3/4's of the way dead on it and it still sounded wonderful. It was kinda pricey, tho'.

I've got a TC dola too, and while I love it and it's very playable, something tells me it's not quite the instrument the others are..

Check out the Sawchyn website and his Beavertail (flatiron style) mandola (16.9" scale). I was extremely lucky to find one of these used several years ago, and I use it a lot. I would strongly recommend this instrument, though there may be a wait.
(His listed prices used to be in canadian dollars - not sure if that's still the case)

I have a Mid Missouri M15 Mandola for sale. Hardly used, crack alongside the fretboard repaired this week by good luthier. Maple back and sides makes for good strong tone. Even volume and tone across the 4 strings. Good tone representation on YouTube Video. Sorry, I have not been able to acquire a case for it. I will be putting it on Ebay when sales pick up, but you can buy it now for $400. Kept in Simsbury CT.
