George,
This CD is on my to "get list". Thank you for confirming my suspicions that this is an outstanding CD

I ordered it last night
Michael Lettieri
I've been listening to it nonstop
Just got it yesterday from Acoustic Disc.... (Scott - I didn't get any extras - just the cd!).
Amazing! The tone these picker's get out of the mandolin is amazing..
And Compton - wholly Bill Monroe sound!
My opinion - (& I am a novice)- the tone of most of the players is similiar - However, the style is pretty obvious....
For example, Sam Bush - to me, sounds like Sam Bush playing David Grisman's mandolin!
One of my favorite's is Joe Craven's tune....
I was very impressed with the female picker's playing - I can't remeber her name..
Eric
Eva Scow. Pretty convincing choro playing (this opinion coming from a Brazilian who doesn't like the way most Gringos play choro). Interestlingly, a little soft. Maybe because she's playing an instrument she's not used to - or maybe that's just the way she plays, i don't know. She's probably playing a tad too fast too, but that's what the people want these days!Originally Posted by (chirorehab @ Sep. 07 2005, 17:36)

My bigtime favourite track is Radim Zenkl. Josh Pinkham's is great too. Compton sounds just like Monroe. Mike Seeger with his alternate tuning is very surprising. Dawg's own Blues for Vassar is also great. Carlo Aonzo has probably the best playing. And Jerry Douglas rules.
She is only 17 too!!!
I didn't realize that. Amazing how some people can be so talented.
Mine's on order. Can't wait. Want now.
So, whose hand is forming that godawful chord on the cover? I don't have it in front of me, but as I recall it spanned 13 frets! -- Paul
He joyously felt himself idling, an unreflective mood in which water was water, sky was sky, breeze was breeze. He knew it couldn't last. -- Thomas McGuane, "Nothing but Blue Skies"
I can do that, but I need both hands
George
I just ordered mine.
Why does Amazon say this is a live recording?
Better than a dead recording, heh?
It was recorded in the Dawg's studio, but direct to 2-channel analog tape, without any processing. Same microphones and same settings for all tracks. Supposedly the only differences are the players' styles.
Right sod it you lot have got me bashing my plastic again!!
I had to go and order the CD yesterday after reading this thread!!
Now I can't wait and I'm staring at the door waiting for the postman!! I'm in Ireland so it's gonna be a couple of weeks of this!!

Translation for Americans: "Right, sod it, you lot...... Equals "OK, heck with it, you guys...." I can't wait to get mine either. Aran you're lucky man to be on the Holy Ground. Switzerland's not bad either.
We few, we happy few.
Well jbrwky (that is a strange name - no vowels?) cheers for translating that for our American friends!
Switzerland is not a bad spot either very beautifull and the trains run on time!
From all the talk here about this CD I don' think we'll be dissapointed

One thing missing on that CD is some good Irish music. It's still very much Bluegrass/Country oriented. I guess not by design; it's really Dawg and friends. Somebody should do a more international mandolin recording, including Greek, Italian, Eastern European, Chinese, Brazilian, Portuguese, etc.
Has anybody identified the bonus track yet?
Got mine today! Yahoo. A very fitting companion piece to the Tone POems series. I was particularly taken with Impromptu.

Well jbrwky (that is a strange name - no vowels?) Yes, it's a contraction of Jabberwocky. So it makes perfect sense now with the vowels.
We few, we happy few.
I just got mine courtesy of UPS.
My only complaint...
...that I didn't get this sooner.
This is probably the best CD that I have ever owned.

[quote=glauber,Sep. 07 2005, 18:34]My bigtime favourite track is Radim Zenkl.
I sampled disc One at Border's tonight. I agree about that fellow. I think the tune is, "Spring Break".
WOW!
I just picked up Tone Poets at Borders a few days ago. Wow! I'm still listening and processing. Already Joe Craven and Rob Ickes on Track 10 of disc 2 is one of my favorite tracks. Who is playing the mandolin on the hidden track after Ave Maria, at the end of disc 1? After a gap of silence after Ave Maria there is about 2 minutes worth of somebody on the mandolin.
Right that's 7 ###### days of staring at the door waiting for the postman!!
It can't be much longer now before it arrives and I know what you guys are talking about
I'm sure it'll be worth the wait as I haven't seen this much excitement about an album before!!
