I don't know if he reads any of the Cafe, but I am going to take a shot:

Hello David, I really enjoy your music and I have many of your records. Althought I have seen one of your live shows here in Virginia, which has changed my complete understanding of great music, please make some more DVD's. I don't really get out that much, and like to watch Mandolin DVD's all day. I thank you for your time, Doug.

Just in case he does get wind of this, feel free to post some more messages....dy.

    . . . OK, I'm game.

David, in case you are reading. That is a great recording with Stephan Grappelli and Mark O'Connor called "Live".

    My favorite from your catalog.

    Dear David,

I would love to get Svingin' with Svend back into circulation. I understand there may be some issues with the label, but hope they may be overcome. It's such a great recording!

David, thank you for your constant inspiration. I know I am one of MANY who can say this truthfully, but you are the reason I picked up the mandolin in the first place. Your work on mandolin and the production of acoustic music is nothing short of amazing. Please keep up the great work. And thank you.

David, my favorites are "So What?", "Here Today", "Acousticity" & "Old & In The Way" (both).

Yes, Mr. Grisman. Please release more film footage on DVD. We all know you're sitting on a motherload of film, and you know we'll all buy it.

    Thanks,

This is sort of like prayer, isn't it? Weird. Is he LISTENING?

Our DAWG, who art in (where does he live, anyway?). Just want to say, Dawg, those Tone Poem/Poets CDs are of immense historical and musicological importance. Thanks so much for taking the effort. When those instruments are gone, the CDs, I hope, will remain to bear witness to them.

David, Thanks for defining the word "tone". It is hard to describe but you have it and we are the better for it. Most of us strive for it through hours of playing and MAS. Thanks for holding that flame up high. Doug

Hey Dawg, shave that freakin' beard, you hippie! No, just kidding...but hey, that ought to get his attention. I am really groovin' on the Shady Grove album and the other stuff he's done with Garcia. I've never been a big fan of The Dead( mostly due to the faux hippie trust fund babies at college who followed them show to show ), but Garcia and Grisman together sound incredible. I was going to see him in July here in SoCal, but I got sick--or my kids were sick--or the cat was sick--I forget. I promise not to let some lame excuse keep me from going next time.

    Hi David,

Thanks for putting lots of your catalog on ITunes where cyber geeks like me can buy your music without going to a record store or waiting for the mailman.

Please come to Western MA (Northampton or anywhere even close). The Calvin theater and the Iron Horse are nice places to play and see a show.

Not that you need any ideas, but I bet everyone would enjoy a collaboration with Chris Thile like "Mandolin Abstractions" with Mr Statman or "Hold on We're Strumming" with Mr Bush. You both have such distinctive tone that the interplay would be a real treat!

While I'm fantasying...your mandolin tone along with Gillian Welch's vocals and David Rawlings' guitar would be an instant classic (I can dream can't I?). Didn't you once record "Train 45" with them and Tony?

Currently spinning Tone Poets and the first DGQ!

    Larry

PS: Thanks for helping break OSFT...I'm going to see them Sunday.

    David,

if you don't win the grammy for Tone Poets there is something wrong with the music biz.
