Default 1928 post-Loar snakehead neck profile

Hi all. Would anyone know about the neck profile of post-Loar snakehead As and how they compare to Loar era examples? Iím particularly interested in differences between snakeheads from 1924 and 1928. Thanks!

Well I guess it comes down to definitions..

The last snakehead (a quick image search tells me ) I have in the mandolin archive is 83001, so figure right around this serial is where that feature ends.

We assume that the ones that came out with the snakehead design are likely "holdovers", and most folks generally would cap the loar period off about this serial number anyway.

If you're talking about the nut width or really any other dimension, there should be no difference between 83001 and the earlier ones. The finish changed from varnish/french polish to sprayed lacquer, which is a bit thicker in the hand.

Is that the sort of information you were after?

It seems like they had one standard fingerboard template for the A necks. Unbound necks feel smaller. Add 2.5-3mm more for a bound fingerboard and they feel larger overall (to me).

Thanks. I really like the V neck shape and the narrower width of my 1924 A2z. I am looking at possibly getting another plain A snakehead from 1928. My understanding was that the snakehead neck profiles changed to somewhat wider, more C-shaped necks in the later 20s. Just trying to confirm if that was the case and when the change occurred (if it did).
