Default New CMSA non-Presidential Fellow: Robert Margo

A few years ago, the Classical Mandolin Society of America (CMSA) established its Fellows program to honor individuals in North America who have contributed to classical mandolin, in accordance with the CMSA’s mission. There are two types of Fellows, Presidential and non-Presidential. Presidential Fellows are former CMSA presidents who have stepped down from their duties; non-Presidential Fellows are nominated and approved by the CMSA Board. Fellows are appointed to a five-year term. Prior to this year, the current non-Presidential Fellows were Jim Bates, Mark Davis, Marilynn Mair, Laura Norris, and Evan J. Marshall (John Goodin was also a non-Presidential Fellow but is deceased and was inducted into the CMSA’s Hall of Fame last year).

At the recent CMSA convention in Kansas City, the current President, Susan McLaughlin, announced that the Board had elected me to be the next non-Presidential Fellow. It came as a COMPLETE SHOCK to me – all deliberations were done in total secret and without my knowledge (as I am a current member of the Board). The nomination statement cited various contributions, primarily the articles and reviews that I have written over the years for the CMSA’s quarterly, The Mandolin Journal (160+, someone actually counted, I had no idea it was that many). You can read more about it here. I am deeply grateful for this honor.

I don't know anyone who has done more for the organization. Well deserved, Bob.
