Default Modern builds with vintage Gibson A character??

    Hi,

I'm interested in suggestions of a modern built mandolin that has:

    Archtop
    Oval hole
Deep woody resonant tone like a good Gibson A model from the teens. I have a couple I love but they're very temperamental.
    Modern neck profile/nut width
    Adjustable truss rod
    Modern bracing

F/A body styles unimportant. Budget 3-4k

    Thanks for any thoughts

    John.

Cafe member Jill Mcaully has an oval built by Max and Lauri Girouard that she likes very much and she is in Ireland. She might chime in here.

    I own a Girouard F-5 that I love.

The late Bill Bussmann (Old Wave mandolins) made some great A-ovals in your price range. They come up for sale on the cafe from time to time.

If you are looking for a modern built oval hole mandolin with similar specs to the old Gibsons then Mike Black and possibly Pomeroy would be the likely suspects. Girouard, Pava, Collings etc. all make nice oval hole mandolins but they don't have the short necks like them old Gibsons do.
