I think one can appreciate, very deeply appreciate, the elements of the music, separately. So you can like the instrumental playing, and/or the harmonies, and/or the vocals, and/or the musicality, and at the same time not particularly care for the melody or the lyrics or the conveyed emotion. And vice versa and mix and match of course.
