    Default Ian Coury Videos

I had seen a Girouard 10 string mandolin at The Music Emporium and had encouraged Brazilian bandolim player Ian Coury to go check it out as he’s just down the road at Berklee. While he was there, he did three videos for them, one on the Girouard, one on an Ellis A model and one on a 30s Gibson F5. Fabulous playing from Ian!

    Awesome!

I have to say I liked the tone on the Ellis the best, and the Girouard 10 string fan fret is something else.

so who is gonna casually mention to him you should not plant?

Apparently, he just tuned up the Girouard and just launched into the tune, 10 strings, fan frets and all, with no warm up! I reckon he’s good enough, he can play it however he wants!

Whoa. I think he played all the good notes. Sweet. I don't think I'll sound like that on any of those mandos.

Fantastic. As good as I've ever heard, actually.

I agree that I liked the tone on the Ellis most.

    Thanks for posting these.
To my ears the old Gibson sounded absolutely perfect.

Since came across a video of him in duet with Isaac Eicher
