Default Just passed a milestone #300

Have just recently passed a major milestone. Serial #300. This is what I call my Classical flattop model and it is made from Red Spruce top, Jarrah back and sides, Indian Rosewood bindings, and the headstock inlay is Huon Pine, Balckwood and European maple. The headstock design is something new and the tailpiece is also new. This is a third generation flat top, each generation is a significant improvement in sound over the previous generation. The construction uses principles from guitar construction as described in the books by Australian luthiers Trevor Gore and Gerard Gilet. It is made similar to a classical guitar where the top is very light and the back is heavy so most of the sound comes from the top. The top is braced like a classical guitar, with 7 fan braces, but the braces are reinforced with carbon fiber tow. This one is the second of the 3rd generation and sounds as good as any of my arch top oval hole mandolins, just a bit different and louder.
