A new album I just got has some fine music. Very good tunes, musicianship. Great mandolin picking.

New tunes (to me) featuring fine vocals, tune selection, musicianship featuring some mandolin picking licks from the big leagues. I’m not a bluegrass fan by any means but……..
Album name:
Pioneering Women of Bluegrass
By:
Hazel Dickens & Alice Gerrard
Apparently from 1996. Reminds me of the country station blaring music from cheap speakers at the IGA in Stuart, Virginia.

Yea, it doesn't get any more real than Hazel and Alice.

One of my favorites. I agree with Charley.

"The Definitive Edition" of this album is out (digitally) and contains 28 songs. You can get a download (even FLAC) at bandcamp. Great album.

I’m really enjoying the two records, especially the contributions of the mandolin player, young David Grisman.
I believe the records are originally from 1965 and 1973.
Check out some of Hazel Dickens recordings on her own. Here's her discography. She was a powerful song writer.

Matt, there is no reason to have two separate threads about this.

Hey Matt, I think one of the moderators has to be aware of the threads and merge them.
