    Default Luither in Seattle Area

Anyone know a good luither in Seattle? I don't need my mandolin's worked on right now but of course they will at some point. The immediate need is for my Martin guitar some love and a violin I inherited . Ideally I'd like to find one luither to rule them all.... er to fix them all (too much Lord of the Rings lately).

    Any thoughts?

I'm taking a lot of work to Paul Stroh these days. Reasonable rates and turnaround times.

The guitar I would take to Paul or to Dagmar Silesia. The violin I would take to Duane Lasley.

I use Dusty Strings for mandolins & Emerald City Guitars or Thunder Road Guitars for guitars & basses.

Thanks - I know Dusty Strings has changed their policy to only repair instruments they sold or instruments you plan on selling through them.

I've reached out to Gary Wanger who was highly recommended and Mike and Mike Guitar's but haven't heard back yet. I just reached out to Emerald City guitar & Thunder Road. I haven't heard of Paul Stroh yet, but I'll reach out to him as well - perhaps too early to call

I didn't realize they changed their repair policy. It's been a while since I've been up to Dusty Strings I've heard good things about American Music, about halfway up the hill from Dusty Strings. It's been even longer since I've gone in their shop but the selection was always great & the bridge replacement I had done 10 years ago is solid as a rock.

violins: Lasley or David Stone... Mandos, if ask to speak to the tech at Emerald, Amer Music or GC Roosevelt, they're all named "Tyler!" and they're all excellent if overworked.

and for high end mandolin Gail Hester in Poulsbo, Steve Smith in KY or Cat Fox in VT. I haven't had Ms. Hester work on any instruments but she has sterling reputation, the other 2 are perfectionists.

I've used Gail for some mandolin setup work. She did a great job.

Gail did great work on three of my mandolins. Highly recommend her.

Unfortunately not in the Seattle area, but in Cedar City Utah, we just had Diana's guitar rescued by Luke Heaton at WhittleSticks Inc.

Luke is a Martin certified repair person, also guitar and other fretted instrument builder and violin family (including double bass) luthier.

On Diana's 1989 Martin D-41, Luke did a neck reset, splinted sealed and cleated a number of top cracks below the bridge, re-glued the bridge, replaced the saddle and nut and fixed a number of binding issues. The instrument sounded pretty mediocre before, but now with all the geometry right and with all of the repairs, this D-41 sounds tremendous.

Despite distances involved, we highly recommend Luke. Cedar City is within an hour of Zion, so if you're wanting some great sightseeing...

    Luthier methinks, not luither.

Has done repairs on all of my stringed instruments for 30 years. I respect his work and his good advice. Peace.
