    info with the video:

"This is a new model mandolin for me, my first 2 point. I call this model the "Grand Nouveau". Engelmann spruce top, koa back sides and neck, with my modified version of a Virzi installed. The mandolin is only 8 days old when the video was made."

I was fortunate enough to play this instrument earlier this summer at Swannanoa. The attention to detail on the instrument is stunning and it played beautifully.

Thanks for the kind words. Here's a video of Emory Lester playing it at Swannanoa.

Hello Lynn. Are you continuing with your plans to fill your existing orders and retire?

I'm thinking about building a 15 inch wide 12-string guitar, on either a slightly blown out Nick Lucas form or a Larson form.
If I do it, I'm going to try the circa 1929 transitional Gibson V-brace idea.
I recently rebraced a Goya TS-4 with an adapted form of that bracing pattern. It worked out pretty well, though the trebles are a trifle muddy. There wasn't enough room to do what I wanted with the rear tone bar, so I recently pulled it out and am going to try putting in a new one at a different angle. Hope to get that done by the end of the month.

    Hope you're well.

Bob....I don't know where you heard that I had plans to retire. That's NOT my plan. I have stopped taking custom orders but will continue to build what I want on my own schedule, then offering them for sale once they are complete. I will slow down some to make time for other things, but I just don't see myself putting this all aside.

    OK. My mistake.
May you enjoy your upcoming freedom. I suspect you won't have any trouble selling whatever you decide to build.

That sounds incredible. Really alive. Seems like it has more sustain than most mandolins, perhaps the virzi?

Thanks everyone. Yes, I have no doubt the Virzi adds sustain. It works particularly well on this mandolin, at least to my ear.

Lovely Big D. I was lucky enough to play one of your F5's with a Virzi and it is one I remember clearly for the excellent tone and playability. Then whenever I get to thinking I know how to play a mandolin I encounter a video of E.L. playing and my self satisfaction slips a bit. <sigh.... Enjoy as much "retirement" as you will and build on. I love hanging out with mandolin nerds . . . . . Thanks peeps ...
