I'm new here, and just wanted to show off my very first mandolin, a Morris A5, #490.

This is my first mandolin, but I wanted an instrument I could grow into. After reading the forums here for some time, I decided a Morris was for me, and I'm lucky to live near enough that I could drive out there, meet the man who built it (and his wonderful wife), see his shop, etc. What a treat! And what wonderful people.

I was planning to buy a flat top A4 (now available in the classifieds), but was seduced by this beauty. I'm in love with the natural finish, so the wood can shine through. Spruce top, maple back and sides, bocote fingerboard, purple heart face on the headstock, walnut strip on the back of the neck.

Of course, now I need to learn to PLAY the thing! I'm brand new to mandolin but a reasonable guitar and ukulele player. Many happy adventures await!

I've played at least three of his mandolins and they all sounded good and were easy to play. Great place to start.

Sonny is a member of our local Old Time Fiddlers Association. I've picked a lot of tunes with him and played a LOT of his mandolins (and some fiddles) over the years. They are consistently good. That's the hybrid F4 he built for me (#184) in my pic.

Fantastic! Congratulations on a great choice. I just bought one of Sonny’s A5’s a few months ago and couldn’t be happier.

Best of luck Dave with you new instrument.I am also new here, just purchased my first mandolin Eastman 515cc.I do however have to wait for its delivery.I have no previous mandolin experience. I have played the Tenor banjo and would describe my level as Intermediate.Im looking forward to learning to play the mandolin.

Congrats on the Morris! That back is real pretty. I love mine (#487) and think it's been a fantastic instrument to learn on.

Very nice. A great looking instrument. Have only played one Morris and I was very impressed with the quality and sound. Definitely an instrument you will enjoy.

Thanks for sharing; that seems like the ideal win win purchase -- you get a great mandolin & the Luthier gets to keep making great mandolins.

Welcome to the Cafe! Beautiful mandolin, and a great choice. Since you already play guitar and ukulele, you should catch on quickly. Lots of good sites out there to help you get started.

Well done! To paraphrase the old Carpenters song, "You've only just begun!" What a great way to start.

Beautiful. Welcome to the club, and may you enjoy it. My Morris is an "old" one, #486. They could be out of the same litter.
