Thread: Avenue Guitars in Colorado?

    Question Avenue Guitars in Colorado?

Hi folks. Avenue Guitars has a mandolin that I want to buy online. I am all tore up because I want this mandolin so badly. I cannot think about or talk about anything else.

They have listed 164 ads here and there are some favorable comments about them. Still, I would like to get some feedback about this dealer before I send them a lot of money for a mandolin that I have never played or EVEN SEEN. What can you tell me about Avenue Guitars?

    Thanks.

Total first-rate folks. We have no financial interest in them and they do not advertise with us. Just lots of experience knowing them and lots of people that have done business with them. Aware they've sold quite a few instruments through the Classifieds and have never heard anything but positive about those experiences.

thru the years, i have purchased many instruments thru Avenue Guitars. 3 Collings mandolins, 2 Northfields, 2 Collings acoustic guitars, and two or three open back banjos. everything met my expectations or more. it used to be run by a father(John) and son(Sean) but now John has retired and only Sean remains. before the last move into a different location the shop was called TejonStreetGuitars. in the past, John built mandolins(if memory is correct they were "Ramsey" on the headstock). these carried a high reputation for build quality and tone. every now and then, although "retired" he has of late put scrapers to use and built a mandolin for sale.

if you haven't read this, do. its a neat short history of the shop and the folks who own it.

My Wife's family lives in Colorado Springs and over the years I have always made time to visit John and Seans shop. I knew them when they were on Tejon St downtown then when they moved to Manitu Springs. Very friendly, knowledgeable folks and John builds some of the most beautiful ukuleles you will ever see. If you give Sean a call, I am sure he give rest to any concerns you might have.

John sold a bunch of mandolins for me back in the 90's. Total Straight shooter. I even bought a Brazilian Washburn from him for $10 to make a swell festival hat.....

I just ordered my 1st mandolin from Avenue Guitars based on these comments. Sean already responded to a concern I had on a Sunday morning! I'll be sure to report back, but have a good feeling based on the above. :-)

Now the important question is, which one are you listing after? That’s artist series leather burst gives my heart a flutter.

We’re driving from Boulder to Crested Butte tomorrow and will be driving right past Salida (where they are now located). Trying to figure out how to convince the family of a slight detour 😂

That one is amazing too! There was an Artist series F5 with leather burst that Northfield highlighted in their weekly email a few weeks back that was headed to Avenue. May have already sold

Looks the Bog Mon with the tortoise binding is sold, I wonder if Andy54 snagged it. There is only one Northfield F5E Leatherburst listed you might want to seal the deal sooner than later.

If you are going to be in Salida, you might want to check out this Pomeroy F-5 that just hit the classifieds...

Yep, I took one look at that tortoise binding and knew it was the one for me.

Congrats! I liked the look of that one also. Avenue Guitars tends to get black top Northfield mandolins on a somewhat regular basis. If I ever saw a black top Big Mon with tortoise binding and an Adi top I might have to succumb to MAS.
    Play it in good health!

Good call Andy54! I am so happy for you! I hope it brings you years of joy.

I think that Avenue Guitars should give the OP a commission, or a nice discount on an F5E.

I’d have to agree! I had started the hunt for my first mandolin and discovered their website. I then came here and searched their name to get an idea on what was thought about them. I was kind of worried about snagging the one you may have been looking at. Glad to see that wasn’t the case.

Oh, where were these guys when I was at Ft. Carson, 1965-67?

Had to go clear to Denver to buy stuff at Harry Tuft's Folklore Center.

It was my understanding that they were closing for good. But they seem to have taken down that notes on their classified listing on the Banjo Hangout forum and on their website.

Every one of their current ads on "The Hang" states in bold: This banjo is 15% off as part of our storewide closeout sale.

Maybe time for another cup of coffee???
