Default Mandolin Album Release by Dave Berry & Friends

    Hello Mando Friends,

I've been meaning to post this here to announce the release of my Covid lockdown project where I recorded 10 original fiddle tunes across different genres with a bunch of buddies from the California Bluegrass community. You can read the original PR and other details on the news page of the website but I like what Peter Thompson of Bluegrass Signal had to say about it so I'll just include that here.

Dave Berry’s collection of original tunes, Morning Walk, covers a wide range of acoustic music styles, led by Dave’s mandolin in collaboration with numerous terrific un-(or under-) recorded NorCal musicians, including Christine Wilhoyte, Helen Lude, Brandon Godman, Jesse Fichman, Lucy Smith, Leah Wollenberg, Simon Chrisman, Bill Foss, and a couple dozen others. It’s an excellent recording, brilliantly mastered by Ivan Rosenberg, with plenty of fine music — which will be featured on Bluegrass Signal. Peter Thompson

There is a video filmed on my San Francisco neighborhood hill that inspired the title track, Morning Walk.

You can purchase, download, or stream it on the website, bandcamp, or the usual streaming sites. DJ's or other media can DM me for a CD or digital download.

    Thanks much and happy mando-picking!
    Dave

A quick update. There was a nice review of the album by the highly regarded author Lee Zimmerman (No Depression, Bluegrass Today ...) on Bluegrass Today. For what it's worth, this track Mussel Rock is probably the most interesting to mandolin players and one of my favs on the album.

    cheers

    Hi Lucy,

Thanks for the note. Yes, I enjoyed pickin with you and your family at SPGMA and I also recall you being on Artistworks at the same time as I . You certainly are sounding great. Congrats on the Galax competition placement. You nailed this wonderful arrangement of East Tennessee Blues. Keep at it.

Dave, you wrote some fine tunes and assembled some excellent musicians. I've enjoyed listening to your album. I really enjoyed all the different textures and arrangements of the tunes. Well done, sir!
