    Default Billy Strings on Mando

Not my style but cool Billy Strings is making the rounds with all the legends and is doing some mando too.

Wow, Del can still get up there!

Billy Strings plays mandolin like it’s his primary instrument and always has been. Sounds good to me!

Love everything about this especially Billy quoting the original Bill licks and him presumably playing Ronnie's Gil.

I believe Ronnie's Gilchrist had "S" holes, not the "F" holes shown here.

It's Ronnie's Gil alright; there isn't another mandolin on the planet that sounds like that X-braced monster

Very good mandolin, but also excellent singing.

I think Billy Strings is a great guy. He recently donated 200 (!!!!) guitars to his old school.

Love this! Billy has an ability to cut right to the core of the music and then branch out in flourishes before coming back to the center. Just awesome, and Del of course.

You can see the "S" holes in some of the closeups ...

Del McCoury, Billy Strings, mandolin, a bit of bluegrassiness, and a touch of the Child Ballad (not too much). I am not sure how this can be improved upon.

Yeah, looks like that's Ronnie McCoury's Gil and I did not know that Billy played mandolin.

It’s definitely Ronnie’s Gil. That thing has such a distinct, and in my opinion, perfect tone

Austin City Limits is into its summer reruns time, and one of my local PBS stations is repeating the Sarah Jarosz/Billy Strings episode tonight. Of course, there's no guarantee this will be the case in your area, so check your listings.

FWIW, Sarah was a bit disappointing from a mando-centric point of view - she played on the first song, then put it in a stand on the drum riser for the rest of her set. It was there in full view all the way, just not in her hands. She concentrated on her singing and songwriting this time. There was plenty more mandolinning in the Billy Strings segment. I can't recall whether he played mandolin, or just his bandmate did - who's no slouch.
But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. - Dennis Miller

The video was posted on YT about a year ago. I love the sound but listening in earbuds or headphones, like I typically do, I could never get used to hearing the high tenor on the left while seeing Del on the right!
