Default Thoughts on an Eastman MD-515 Mandolin as a first scroll

    Hello all

I am considering the above instrument as my first scroll mandolin. Your thoughts?
I have gathered a Beaver Tail flat top, oval hole, a Kentucky 256, a Red Valley EM and a Big Muddy MM-8. Now if I could just learn to play them I maybe be happy.

    Great choice!

Good enough to be the only scroll many folks ever need. Go for the varnish version if you can afford it. They sound terrific.

    Great choice !

I recently purchased a MD515CC as a sub for my Ellis F% deluxe special, which I don't want to use on some gigs.
The MD515CC has rounded corners/bindings, feels great, had a perfect setup and sounds pretty good. It has nice woodiness and throatiness in the sound, not overly stringy, which is hard to find in a F5 mandolin of that price range. I put Monel strings on it to soften the tone even more. They do an amazing job on it. Before purchasing, I compared it to an Eastman 815 and preferred the 515CC.
    I can highly recommend it.

Personally, I really like my 515 and have never had a problem with it
