I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.
I have several iterations of the Cafe cap. khaki, black, trucker in blue and faded red and the one I won't wear again. None of mine have earned a patina as great as yours, Bill. You should get a second for more formal occasions and use that one for the woodshedding!
Now if you all want my idea for new versions, what about hats in the purple, maroon, or green of classic case interiors? They don't HAVE to be velvet but....

But not factory distressed, this is honest head wear.
I had a thing for John Deere caps about 10 years ago that I wore when doing yardwork (matched my garden tractor.) They would get so bad, I would just buy a new one. I recently cleaned out the hall closet and found three of them --yuck!
Yuk!…I love it!
I love my black Cafe hat I won in a giveaway a few years ago and have since added a khaki. I’d like to see a few pastel colors…pink, light blue, lavender…not just for us gals but you guys would look awesome in those colors too…

Now, if you ask me - and yes, I'm well aware no one did - all y'all are missing the point here. If I'm reading what Bill said right, he isn't just displaying his well-worn hat; he's looking for others to do the same with theirs. And oh boy, would I ever love to share my old hat's image, in all its ragged glory. It's not even any kind of shade of black anymore; it's closer to khaki. The buckle was so oxidized it broke. It's so ashamed of itself, it's hiding from me. I'll find it and post it, you can count on that. But I had to keep wearing it because - well, it's the Mandolin Café, and I am promoting mandolin consciousness, but I just don't like the "trucker" hat style, so I had to keep wearing that until the classic style was brought back. I would show my current hat, with which I replaced that one about three or so years ago, and it has faded a bit from the sun, heat, and humidity. But it's not even close to being dilapidated enough for consideration here. So as much as I want to play the game, I am not quite ready yet to throw my hat in the ring. Yes, I said that, and I meant it just that way.

Personally I don't wear anything brighter than me. So that limits it to black, gray or maybe kaki (on a good day).

Just hoping that they come back on stock so that I can finally snag one for myself!

Well, personally, I vastly prefer black when it comes to these hats. Goes well with all other colors, and suitable for all occasions, including formal affairs.
Now there was a time, a gazillion years ago, in another decade, century, and millennium, I wore a red hat. It was a Beech Nut Tobacco hat. I'm not sure why; must have thought it was way cool, and ironic, and perfect for wearing to country and bluegrass festivals and concerts. I even got it autographed by The Kendalls, Jeannie and Royce. Its mysterious disappearance was the cause of much consternation.
Since then I've stuck to black for the most part. I've amassed an enormous collection of baseball hats, lover of kitsch that I am, mostly gathered along roadsides, left behind thanks to the wind. These fit in well with my objets trouvés philosophy. Heck, I picked one up this morning, a brick red hat that says "Portugal," a place I occasionally consider a destination for relocating. But ai hardly ever wear any of them, preferring to wear my Mandolin Café hat almost exclusively. Now and then I might wear one of my festival hats, or a Schooner Wharf Bar hat - part of the winnings from one conch shell blowing contest or other - but I always return to the Café hat. It's black and it has a mandolin on it, even says "Mandolin." Nothing better.

I have 2 Mandolin Cafe caps (black and tan) that are my favorites to wear. They are my go-to caps when I leave the house - rain or shine. However, it doesn't seem fitting to me to wear them while doing yard work or work around the house. For that, I have a line of other hats that are beat up, bruised, bent and sweat through.

Some crazy mandolin players wrote all over mine, but it is otherwise in good shape.

Sorry, no pics. No one's playing that way, though it would be the most fun.
I'd be happy to share pics of my old one, if I could find it. Oh boy, it's been through the wringer, a few times.
But here it is in action, during a post-hurricane celebration of survivors and benefit for first reponders, just after Hurricane Irma. A bit of color distortion from the stage lighting, but still, it's far from black. Note wear on the edge of the brim.

Aha! From a couple of years later, a bit more wear and tear on that bill's edge. The shred spread almost all along its width, with tendrils hanging down. It took a long time to replace it - partly because they weren't available for years, but also since it had been with me through a lot of living - but it had to happen ...
Now, focus, please! We're looking at the hat, not my funny face nor the gawgeous visage of my friend, Patti Rothberg. We'd spent the better part of the afternoon recording for an upcoming EP (spoiler alert: any day now), and her mom had come up with a birthday cake for me. That's what's reflected in my left lens.

Wow! You've seen (and, I assume, heard) some people! I wonder how you've managed this. Do we need to alert security?
But seriously, thanks for sharing. Wish I could add more than one "thanks."
Right-i-o! Yes, they do fade into this khaki-grey tone that might be a bit off-putting to those who don't understand how much living got them to that point.
