"Mean Old Timer, He's got grey hair, Mean Old Timer he just don't care
Got no compassion, thinks its a sin
All he does is sit around an play the Mandolin"
Here's a beautiful Scottish tune. Thanks for the Listen!![]()
Hi,
Well played Frank, nothing like a good Scottish dirge to cheer up a Scotsman first thing in the morning and Niel Gow wrote quite a few.
Thanks for posting.
Regards,
Frank, This a beautiful piece and a well played arrangement. You always inspire with the touch you have in your right and left hands, respectively. Thank you!

Hey Folks! Happy Spring!![]()
Sensitive and lovely, Frank. And i liked the cameo halfway through.
Robert Johnson's mother, describing blues musicians:
"I never did have no trouble with him until he got big enough to be round with bigger boys and off from home. Then he used to follow all these harp blowers, mandoleen (sic) and guitar players."

Why weep ye by the tide lady?

I'll listen to this when I get home Frank, but I just want you to know that the song is about a young woman who rejected the chosen groom Frank in favour of Jock!
Here is the vocal version, Frank. As Bren says, the young lady deserted Frank, the Lord of Errington, in favour of Jock from Hazeldean. We Scots love a good romantic ballad.

I was turned on to this tune by John Kelly over at SAW. SAW's hot right now with several new posters. There's no better, if any, "Open Mic" anywhere. Check it out! Thanks For The Listen!![]()
Beautiful, sensitive playing, I always enjoy hearing your posts. Thanks.
Thanks for the mention, Frank. You have done a really fine, soulful interpretation of a beautiful tune here. Lovely in its simplicity. John![]()

Nice, Frank. One of your best ones yet!
You've outdone yourself this time, Frank. That tune really takes me places. Thanks.

Frank,
You’re in line to become an honorary Scot, if you keep up with some of these recent posts. Lovely playing once again.
Regards,
Here's a great Tut Taylor tune. I am joined once again by Tim Sweeney who takes the lead in 2 and 4, mirrors me in 3 and 5, as well as some tasty fills. Add doing the final mix to that also. Thanks Tim!. Thanks for the Listen!:mandosm iley:
That sounded like fun. Thanks!
You got that right Keith, there have been times when playing mandolin has brought me pure joy, this was one of them, I really couldn't help smiling and laughing during the recordings.
The tune is from Tut's 1976 Dobrolic Plectral Society credits include
・Tut Taylor (Dobro, Mandolin)
・Sam Bush (Mandolin, Mandola, Fiddle, Bass)
・Butch Robins (Banjo, Guitar, Bass)
・Norman Blake (Guitar, Mandocello)
・Curtis Burch (Dobro, Guitar)
So I probably don't sound like Sam on Mandola or Norman on Mandocello, but at least I got to step into their shoes for a moment.
Great tune choice Mr Frankdolin, as always a pleasure.
