Never heard of Sturgill, thought the mandolin looked interesting:

It looks like a handmade (folk art) home build. Maybe someone's project. I don't think that I've ever seen a reverse, hand drawn scroll before. Interesting.

Finally….one that sits on your leg.
And the applied scroll has sort of a Picasso vibe to it.

Article on the Sturgill family of Piney Ridge NC, mentions that they built instruments with "unique shapes." Could be one of theirs.

Wait… maybe after all these years we had been spelling if wrong… the Sturgill Devastator!

Nice try, Jim -- but another example of pervasive misinformation.

Well, I did not reveal that Sturgill was proven to be making counterfeit Devastators back in the day.

A futile effort; as the makers said (decades before Gibson ripped off the slogan), "Only a Shmergel is good enough!"

That is another of Sturgill’s models: “The Futile Effort”

Since this may be gone soon, maybe best to post the description.
Selling only as a set. Both instruments play beautifully and have been professionally set up. “Uncle” Dave Sturgill made great quality instruments in the 70s and 80s. I have original paperwork for the guitar. It is a C-100.

Both have solid spruce tops, and rosewood (possibly Brazilian) back and sides. These have seen plenty of use and are well played in - but also have the scuffs and scars that come with use. Both have loads of volume and great tone.

His mandolins didn’t have model names. This one has a semi-arched top larger than a normal F-model so lots of bass and overall volume. While it would definitely work for bluegrass, it might be more at home in an old time or Irish session as it’s tone is more resonant and less focused and percussive than a Gibson.

    In-person local sales only.

Huh, don't think I have ever seen a reverse lump scroll before. Certainly would be a conversation starter at a jam or festival.

The price went down to $1849 from $2000 for this beautiful set and it still is not sold? Surprising!
