Thread: Daughter's New Mandolin!

    Default Daughter's New Mandolin!

    Morning, Y'all!

I had to share the excitement from this morning's unboxing of Maddy's brand spanking new Ratliff Mandolin. The UPS guy didn't show up until after bedtime last night so she woke up this morning to a big box sitting in her chair at the breakfast table.

Here are some pics of the kiddo with her new, unnamed mandolin. (everything gets named in our house )

I would like to thank Charles Johnson from Mandolin World Headquarters for taking care of us in the purchase of this mandolin. He was a gentleman in every aspect of the word. Best
instrument dealer that I've ever dealt with.

She'll debut it tomorrow night at the Pickin' Parlor.

Congratulations to you and your young mandolinist! I’m going to hazard a guess that this mandolin is the one that Audey Ratliff packed for shipping at the start of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bZtjGskOeg&t=3s

Excellent! I wish y´all health and happiness while enjoying a lot of pleasing music.

I remember the day, when my expensive mandolin came. My son was about 2 years old. He stood there, craning his neck to see what was in the super big box. When I opened it and he saw what was in it he immediately jumped up, elated of joy, crying out: "A lymmelym, my lymmelym." Nobody can deny that music and its instruments give joy to people.

awesome, congrats! Wish I could get my 7 year old to be interested in playing, but not going to force it on him. Maybe he'll come around lol.

Awesome! Any young folk that has the desire to play is where its at! And what a fine instrument for her to play on. I've delt with Charles J. for over 20 years off and on and he is topps, for sure one of the fairest in the game, he's not one of the sharks! And correct let your kids come to any instrument, forcing them is no good! I pray mine come around to want to play.

What an amazing gift! Pure joy! I particularly like the last photo of her looking up the mandolin.
We started our daughter on the guitar when she was 8 and she stuck with it and is now an amazing player at 21.
Good things to come for you- enjoy!

It's an incredible gift to get a child a good-quality instrument. So often kids ae given junk, hard to play and harder to get a pleasing sound from. I hope your daughter plays the potatoes out of it for many years.

Very nice. Audey Ratliff builds a very nice mandolin. His set up is great as well. She will get a lot of years of enjoyment out of that mandolin.

What a nice story and thanks for sharing. Looking at the pics I said to myself this looks too familiar. It was about 15 years ago I was unpacking a box with my Ratliff R5 (exact same reddish sun burst finish) that I had purchased from ...... Charles Johnson! Mine is s/n 987.
And I'll second the thoughts about Audie building a great mandolin and Charles being a quality guy to deal with.
Hope your beautiful daughter (and you, proud dad) enjoy your new instrument for many years to come.

    It is indeed #7, Kenny!

She’s very happy with her mandolin. She has been playing a Cheap, Bean Blossom mandolin while we waited for the Ratliff to be built. The Ratliff is very easy to play. Charles had it set up low for her dainty, little hands!

I can’t believe how loud this little thing is. It keeps up with my cannon of a Martin.
