Default Sierra playing a Goldtone mandocello

Well you may have seen me attempt to play on a Goldtone mandocello, here is the real deal.

I guess that this ends the concern about being too small to play mandocello.

    It most definitely should! :-)

Personally, I find this really inspiring. I‘ve been owning such a MC beast (the very same, in fact) for about a year now, and so far couldn‘t really figure out how to use it properly to put my musical ideas into sound. Apart from playing dome rock stuff acoustically on the deeper strings - the low register double strings deliver a first-class rocky chorus guitar sound.
Anyway, this certainly helps me a lot. Been watching it about two dozen times so far…

I had done a few different things on it, but now that its cool... I brought it to a jam partially to let someone try it who is interested in buying one ( mine is not for sale) - but they didn't make the jam, anyway I usually play mandolin or mandola with this group, and we tried some traditional stuff with it, but then we just started jamming with the mandocello making spontaneous melodies and the guitar and mandolin very loosely chording, you know it really worked and we were all a little "transcended" by it, so I think we will try that again!.

Yeah, that really works. Note the humbucker pickup, which is one of the best ways to grab those bass tones when you're dealing with low-pitched strings. This is a cool song and masterfully done by Sierra to bring out the best characteristics of a mandocello.

well, I had to order one....waiting for it to ship now. Hesitant at that price point for how it will play, and I have no idea what I am going to do with it, but why not?

    That’s the spirit!!

It‘s actually really well built, and sounds quite nice already acoustically. Of course, the possibilities are nearly endless with the humbucker (plus under-bridge piezo)…

I had just problems first, because I tried to transfer the common four-string-chords technique I‘m used to from the octave mandolin and tenor guitar to this beast. Obviously, that doesn‘t work quite as fluently as on those other instruments. But I feel, I‘m slowly getting to the point of having an idea of what to do with it. The growly low register double strings with its built-in chorus effect are excellent for rock or metal guitar riffs. Try, for example, Nirvana’s „Come as you are“ or the opening riff of „Enter Sandman“ by Metallica. Even acoustically, it sounds really cool on the MC! (Maybe I should add that I’m no metal head AT ALL, but it‘s still fun to play that stuff acoustically…)

Here is another player having some serious fun with his GT'cello. I stole parts of this, along with some of Oliver Waitze's version for my own arrangement of Big Country.

Well, my Gold Tone Mando Cello arrived last week. I was concerned about the shipping with the colder than average temps in NC, but it seems to be fine. So far I am pretty impressed with the instrument for $1k. It is my first mando cello so take that for what it's worth.
A wide variety of tone options when plugged in, but a pretty good sound acoustically as well I think. It probably won't hold up to Mike Marshall's Monteleone but hey, for $1k I am pleased.

I opted for the Eastman with an LR Baggs Anthem installed (mine is the oval hole). It doesn't hold up to a Monteleone, either
Personally. I think the GT is a GREAT deal. I followed MC threads during its initial introduction, which included some growing pains, but it seems they have those taken care of. Good luck and have a ton of fun!
