There have been a lot of good mandolins made in the last 10 years.
It's a lot different from the old days when there wasn't very much to choose from.
Even with current inventory shortages, I'm sure something will come along that will suit you.
One example: the Newson A-5 that went through Carter's last month was a great instrument, and attractively priced. I was hoping that one of my advancing students would pick it up, but they are young and starting families, and $3000 was more than they could afford. Somebody grabbed it, and got a great mandolin.
These days, we have choices. Something good will turn up.
A thought: since you're in Kentucky, have you thought about paying John Hamlett a visit and see if you might want to order an instrument from him??
