It doesn't matter which DAWS you use.
I'd always use a certain amount of compression/limiting, EQ and reverb on a mandolin track.
I have only been playing for about half a year, and not done a lot of mando recording, save my "video exchange" submissions, so don't have any rules or [project] templates in place (yet).
But, for now, I use the built-in EQ and compressors and Space Designer (IR-based reverb). Maybe put the mix through iZotope RX for any background noises or stray clicks, and, lately, I've used that for setting LUFS on small mixes, vs. the iZotope Ozone Maximizer, though I might use Ozone. It depends on what the target is.

EQ and reverb.
I'm not a pro, but I've recorded a lot tunes on my digital Tascam and use the same effects on all my instrument tracks: plenty of EQ to separate their sonic slots and usually just a barely audible taste of reverb to take the starch out.
In my book, compression is short for com-promise ex-pression.
