All the purchase price is in the top I assume?

Surprised they used the headstock veneer for the conversion - double flowerpot and all....

"THE ORIGINAL 1921 GIBSON "FAULTLESS" BRAND F4 MANDOLIN CASE IN ANOTHER AUCTION."

Fairly sure red lining was well gone by 1921. Superseded by purple, then green.

I've learned from this auction... don't fix it... run it over with the car and sell the parts

Agreed. As a repairman, about 15 years ago I noticed people selling parts or "project" instruments on eBay. I had at that time about 30 vintage instruments in the backroom that I had planned to get to at some point and repair and then sell, once repaired. Instead, I started to list a few on eBay as projects and found that the interest and bidding to be brisk and the end price, in most cases, was more than I could have made if I had repaired the instrument! Believe it or not...

Enlightening, weird, and kind of sad, IMHO....(probably some kind of lesson here, but I'm not sure what...)
