Thread: case shoulder/carry strap

    Default case shoulder/carry strap

I see all kinds of mandolin cases with different mounts for shoulder and/or backpack straps, and thought I'd share what has worked well for me for the past 30+ years, on several cases.

I bought a couple brass latch kits from Lowes, and used the inverted "U" shaped clasp holder, along with T-nuts, machine screws and key rings to make mounts for a clip-on shoulder strap. For the side mount, the T nuts are inside the case accessory pocket.

This arrangement allows easy shoulder carrying, with the case pointing down and out of the way when going through doorways or crowds, etc. and since the straps are attached on the side of the case, it still sits flat on the floor.

I drill two deck screws into the spacer in the compartment where the staples are on your case to the left of your installation. I use the back of the handle bracket to secure the other side of the strap. Yours looks good and should work well.

Neat idea. I like the way it hangs virtually.

    Question Re: case shoulder/carry strap

Part of why I like Fiberglass cases is the D Rings. Pegasus carries well, 1 on hinge side 2nd, one of the handle D rings.

But the 3_D rings on the back of my Eastman case take an actual 2 strap backpack setup.

the other part is the gasket edges , they keep the inside dry,
when I carry it on my bicycle in the rain..

    Question Re: case shoulder/carry strap

So, if just walking, like @ festivals, one shoulder strap, as suggested in the original post above, may be fine..
Calton uses 2 rings, both on the ends of the latch side, so would carry OK in that situation too
Or when also carrying other gear in your hands into/out from, gigs...

Where riding my Bike .. I pedal, but motorized riders may also apply, too.
More stable is the diagonal across the chest strap, Pegasus offers,
or the 3 - D backpack rings on the bottom of the Eastman Fiberglass, I have used ...

Neat idea/solution, Bill. Ever since I got my Crossrock with backpack straps it’s all I use (well, I move them over to my Northfield case sometimes). It’s more stable for me, and makes getting on a plane even easier
