Thread: Help identify this wood

    Default Help identify this wood

I've had this Mark Locke Irish bouzouki since the early-mid-1990s, and have always wondered what the wood is for the back and sides. Hopefully, some of the folks here that are knowledgeable about such things can identify it.

I included an image of the front too, just for context.

    Thanks in advance.

A decade or so ago, Fender made some acoustic guitars in Mexico with wood that looked just like this. They called it "Mexican Rosewood". It was on a jumbo with a pleasing sound/volume and played well; also worked when strung with the 4 lower strings pitched an octave higher...another one that would've been worth keeping.

Thanks for the info. It sure does look like other images of instruments made with Palo Escrito I found on a web search.

btw, this instrument has a lot of tone and volume.

Looks to me like Ovangkol, Bubinga or Cocobolo? There's a few others it could be.
