Default Replacement pickups for 8 string Chinocaster?

This has been covered here in the past, but posts I've seen are a while back so may be out of date...

There's a Chinese made 8 string solid mandocaster currently for sale under a bunch of different brand names worldwide - Harley Benton, Eastwood, and three or four more, it's a perennial Ebay feature too. It's a bound Tele style outline but 2 sided headstock, 2 pickup, 3 way selector - probably the most common electeic mando onlinr. I'm thinking of getting one, as past posts here say these can be OK provided you upgrade the pickups and set them up. Where do you find inexpensive replacement pickups that fit this and do the job well please?

    Thanks, Max

Yep - the lack of good current
search results for ' mandocaster replacement pickup' is why I'm asking Folks here used to recommend a particular UK solid mandolin maker as a source of good replacement pickups, but he retired last year...

Steve Ryder, who posts here, makes Mandocaster replacement pickups. Go to https://www.sjryder.com/pickups.html and scroll down a bit. His prices are comparable to pickups from the bigger manufacturers like Seymour Duncan, Lollar etc. I can't vouch for them as I've never bought one, but a lot of folks seem to like them. I'm sure there are more out there.

Thanks - anyone know what is the nearest fit on these Chinese made 'Mandocasters' - Strat pickups, or Tele shape neck or bridge pickups, or even Danelectro style lipsticks?

They're Strat-sized, but you might need to "finesse" the scratchplate due to slight differences amongst the many brands. I just purchased a couple of cheap 4-pole single coil tenor guitar pickups to experiment with on mine. I'll fit a new scratchplate & play with SoundFarmer Pete's suggestion (in another thread) of tiny neodymium discs under the pickup poles to see what happens.

Bill Lawrence makes a nice set of hotrail-style double-coils that are easy to install. Billlawrencepickups.com

For clarity: Pickups made by the man Bill Lawrence (and his family) are available at https://www.wildepickups.com/. The other site is a company who owns the rights to the name & makes pickups. This often generates confusion when searching the subject. I have no experience with the BLP products (which have been offered in Washburn instruments), but Wilde pickups are outstanding.
