I could use some help folks. I have a luthier-made octave mandolin. Flat top, 19 5/8” scale. The e strings sound very brash, tinny, thin, and unpleasant. I filled the grooves in the bridge with super glue and rosewood dust, then re cut the notches, thinking perhaps the landing area on the bridge was too wide. It did not help. It has a zero fret, so the nut is not the problem. The strings are not hitting on the frets and adjusting action didnt help.
I am thinking that the short scale makes the string tension too loose? And perhaps I need a much higher gauge for the e string pair? Thanks for your thoughts.
