Default A highly misguided proposal for a trade

This Seagull dulcimer is up for sale in Portland, Ore. The instrument looks well made and, for $200, it's probably a good choice for someone who wants to try electric dulcimer.

But what kills me is the seller wants "$200 firm" or trade for an F-style mandolin.

What kind of F would be worth only $200??!!

I have often offered the alternative to cash on instrument sales of taking any genuine Gibson Lloyd Loar signed instrument in trade. Nobody has ever stepped forward.

The seller seems to have upped his game, perhaps realizing how much this (possibly) unique instrument is worth, and put the price at $220. That really opens the field for F-style mandolin possibilities.

I'm not sure that the Seagull instrument actually is a dulcimer. Their Merlin was related to the dulcimer but had different tuning -- a good instrument though. Seagull's own description of the M4 says:

"Made in La Patrie Quebec, Canada and inspired by the dulcimer, the Seagull M4 is a very portable & compact 4-string diatonic acoustic instrument that is simply fun to play and very hard to put down! The M4 was designed to introduce & stimulate people of all ages (some of whom may not necessarily be players) to the joy of creating & playing music. Small in stature. Big in fun!"

I'd inquire further about the M4 if I was wanting a dulcimer. By the way, the company is selling them new today for $219 Canadian, the Canadian dollar being of lower value than the American, so $220 USD is probably not a bargain on a used instrument. Wait a minute the ad says both "$220" and "200$ firm." Huh?
Robert Johnson's mother, describing blues musicians:
"I never did have no trouble with him until he got big enough to be round with bigger boys and off from home. Then he used to follow all these harp blowers, mandoleen (sic) and guitar players."

I agree with Ranald, it is not a dulcimer. It is an electric, diatonic thing-a-ma-gig. Dulcimers are zithers, meaning that the scale length equals the body length. Also this has half the number of frets that a dulcimer would have. Good luck to the seller.

The Loar LM310 F style, $350 new maybe close to $225 used...

I've seen enough goofy stuff on reverb and ebay etc. that it's way too much exertion to roll my eyes anymore. But I bought a brand new Pos grid spark amp for $249 free shipping and gig bag recently and i see guitar center has them used, identical item for $300 plus shipping and tax but no gig bag!
