NFI - Musician's Friend's "Stupid Deal of the Day" (which means it's only on sale right now) is around $100 for the Rogue A-style plywood acoustic with a single-coil mounted into the body.

Assuming the fretwork can be made playable, which is a given with these and a good setup, it's a cheap entry into electric mandolin. The pickup and electronics will be sub-par, but easily upgrade-able if you like the neck and how it plays. Being plywood is a bonus for electric as it reduces feedback issues at higher volumes.

As Rob Meldrum has been making Rogue mandolins playable now for quite some time I'd assume one could get these to play well.
