Thread: Mandolin stand

    Default Mandolin stand

Just as people come on to Mandolin Cafe and brag about their new mandolins, I would like to brag about a new mandolin stand that I received last week.

In the past I tried to use one of those cheap guitar stands for my mandolin, but as I was living in a tropical climate, the black fake rubber bumpers left a smudge mark on the wood; thus, I just left the mandolin in the case.

But recently, a wood worker in Oklahoma began to offer wooden mandolin stands here as a MC sponsor: Solid Ground Stands, which are made in the USA. I selected one made from cherry and got the MC 10% discount. Here some piccies to show it off.

The wood work is excellent, the finish clean, and the hardware solid. The stand has non-marking cloth bumpers at the three places of contact (neck and two different spots on the back) which keep it from touching wood.

It also comes with a carrying case.

NFI on my part. And this was an unsolicited review.

    Regards.

Sorry about the first photo. I have reoriented it vertically on my computer, but I can't seem to get it corrected in the post. Aging Luddite, this one.

Yes, it is well constructed. As to price, well, let's just say I use $1.67 picks instead $35 picks, and have shunned other mandophernalia. But a nice wooden stand was high on my list of desired accessories.

I've had to fix this a few times, so I've gotten pretty good at it. Here are the steps, in the Photo function of my PC version of Microsoft 10:

    Open the photo
    Go to Edit and Create
    Select Edit
    Select Crop and Rotate
    Select Rotate
Save - not Save a Copy

PS: Yes, pricy, but nice. Maybe you should have dropped a hint or two, with Christmas on its way. The logo is really cool, I must say.

I picked up one of Northfield’s new øx mandolin stands. Really cool backstory, and like everything they do, built beautifully

Love this stand but too rich for my blood. I use the Hercules, which keeps the mando up high like this one.

I first saw Cooperstand at Wintergrass several years ago. I like how they are sturdy and fold down to fit inside many cases. I can bring multiple instruments to a gig or jam and not have to keep taking something in and out of its case.

Wow, a bit less expensive than the violin stand by Hercules. I've been using it and wasn't aware of the uke stand.

I agree the Northfield mandolin stands are really a nice wooded stand. I just received mine in the mail last week. Northfield is selling them at a reasonable price I think at $125.

Its crazy how we all think sometimes. We will spend thousands of dollars on a top tier mandolin and then won’t spend money on a nice stand to hold our beautiful mandolin.

I've had a Cooperstand for quite awhile and really like it. But have had a lot of close calls when I have been sitting in a living room with people (not recently!!) when I have had the mando in that stand and somebody brushed/bumped it and if I wasn't watching it it would have gone over.

Yeah, I totally understand that. People who only play at home, entertaining the wall, really only need a good case to keep out the teddy bears.

But for gigging musicians, who have to plug in to a PA or board, it is nice to have a stand to set the mandolin on when moving around to check other things. I used to keep my case beside my mic stand and put the mandolin into it during breaks, but that meant pinching the transducer cable. A nice stand negates that.

I hear you. I am the facilitator for the music at our local Farmers Market, and book the bands including my own. Last summer, we had a band where the guitar player used six different instruments during their two-hour set. He had 4 acoustic guitars and 2 resophonic guitars, and each needed its own stand.

I was unaware of these so thanks for the link. For some reason I had the idea that Northfield used made-in-China exclusively but their stands are made in the USA by an American craftsman.
